121·2 months agoThat thinkstation is now “starting at 5,849.00”. No matter how bad I want it, I can’t justify that cost. You can get nearly 6 years of Claude max for that amount. Maybe in 6 years the hardware cost will go down.

Technology@lemmy.world•Delta Will Use AI To Cut Costs And Set A Different Ticket Price For Every Passenger—CEO Says Profits Could Rise 50%English
2·2 months agoDelta has the worst customer service, at least in the Tampa airport. They were directly responsible for me missing an international flight and couldn’t care less, even talked about me with other staff right in front of me. It was beyond offensive and I think they enjoyed it. I will never fly Delta ever again.

I’m sure they will keep hardware exorbitantly expensive for as long as possible to push ppl to the subscription model. I would love to run local models, but the cost of hardware versus performance is too high compare to cloud at this point in time. I might break even in 5-10 years, but the hardware may be out of date by then. I hope things will level out in a few years. And I agree the us gov will try to ban non-us models and hardware. They may even bail out the ai companies because they will be too big to fail. Also expect ai and robot companies to get massive military contracts.
