Ok the push notification pop up started to piss me off halfway down lol. But yeah, this is a cool demonstration.

Like the “Come to Brazil!” comments on every music video or concert on youtube.
Thanks! I’ll check it out.
Glad I held back from suggesting Firefish for my wife. I’ve been slowly trying to convince her to jump to the fediverse for microblogging and figured to have her try Firefish simply because it’s prettier than Mastodon. Guess it’s back to ol’ Mastodon.
Plan? Just do it.
The only barrier to entry is creating a usb installer. Once you’re past that, there’s nothing more than basic computer knowledge to do what you need to do. By basic, I mean knowing how to use a computer, so you should be good. Just choose a user friendly distro like Mint and you won’t need to open the terminal at all unless something really bad happens.
My condolences to the people who have to install it to write an article about it.
FWIW, this was debunked when CMG originally made the claim. It was a marketing guy overselling their product and they had to correct their statement. They use the same info data brokers collect, and phones actively listening to you is not true.
Not directed at you specifically, but it’s the same with IT and dev people but with security/privacy.
Both links are paywalled, but if I’m remembering correctly, that company (CMG) eventually had to correct their claim that phones were actively listening to everything you say. It was an overzealous marketing guy trying to oversell. They admitted in the end that they use the same info that data brokers have on you based on data gathered from your browsing and other activity, not from actively listening to you.
Siri for example is designed in a way where it “listens” for your voice to call it, but that mechanism is completely separate from the actual Siri that connects to the internet to understand you.
Lol calm down, no one’s trying to fight you over Signal being the best private messaging platform. I was just sharing that it was weird to me how stories was one of the most sought out features from users.
They also added stories which, despite what the internet might have you believe, was one of the most popular feature requests on the Signal message boards for many years
This was weird for me personally. I consider Signal a messaging tool which in my mind is separate from an actual social media app, so it was a bit of a head scratcher for me to see stories as a very popular feature request. I don’t really care about sharing “stories” in that format to my contacts or seeing theirs, but then again that’s just me.
Pot meets kettle.
Yeah it’s worth noting that the employee in this case had the resources to fight. Hopefully other regular non-executive employees can use it as precedent for their own lawsuits.
I’ve been using the IOS app since it was launched and just wanted to say you’re awesome! The app has been very helpful when I need to check my city’s sub and r/nba (both exist in lemmy but aren’t as active yet).
You’ll still get a broken window and steering column because the thieves can’t tell if the car has had the update or not and will still attempt to steal it.
You’ll know it when you feel the satisfaction of getting to enter pacman -Syu
in the terminal several times a day and a new update or two comes in. lol
I already do, and most hardware in the office are macbooks, toshibas, and dells. Also, it’s no longer as common for companies to allow employees to buy/adopt old hardware and they choose to recycle instead.
I wish someone randomly gifted me a thinkpad as well
Tilda because you can roll it down from the top of your screen with one key press.
