No idea, that will depend on the game you install (and there could be equivalents that work differently, like those modpacks for Minecraft that change it up)

The tutorial is helpful for basic controls, but nothing is too foreign and I was able to pick it up after looking at the hotkeys, remapping some of them to be more convenient (e.g. inventory to E, not I)
Why are these downloadable games so small actually?
Because 1) most of the game logic is handled by the Luanti base (movement, inventory, rendering, that sort of stuff), and 2) modern games have gotten so bloated it makes relatively reasonably sized games look small

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Xbox PC and Game Pass games are being worked on for LinuxEnglish
3·3 days agoJust of note, this is worked on by the team at Heroic (a game launcher that’s like Lutris but specifically for game stores, like GOG), certainly not Microsoft. Why on earth would MS willingly reduce the dominance of Windows? They’re a for-profit megacorporation! It’s one of the reasons why Minecraft Bedrock isn’t natively supported by Linux. They can definitely do it, it runs on C++, they just choose not to and have Windows have the privilege of running Java and Bedrock editions of Minecraft.
You don’t need an account to play single player, nor do you need to self host anything! You only self-host if you want a server that people online can join for multiplayer, but if it’s only a couple friends, you can do local multiplayer w/o self-hosting.
Research enough of an item and you can duplicate it endlessly, as an alternative to a more traditional creative mode.
Yep, that’s what it looks like too from what I can tell from the settings tooltip
Sounds like there’s more Terraria influence too, like slimes holding items and the lack of swimming.
That sounds pretty neat. Maybe I should play Terraria sometime…
Well I did mention that at the end, and I won’t stop playing Minecraft anytime soon. Luanti is still really neat and I will occasionally play it when I want something different, and is an awesome option for people who don’t want to purchase Minecraft / simply want something that is more modular and unique.
It does support mods and resource packs, not sure about shaders though. Haven’t checked though.
Have not tried it, but looks like others have had good experiences in the past!
Looking through the settings, it looks like “researching” different items with give you an “earned creative mode” where fully researched items can be duplicated, pretty interesting. This functionality can be disabled though. p.s. There’s a lot of stuff you can change, like hunger, mob spawning mechanics, whether you can jump over fences and walls (allowed by default, confused me for a bit), how player death is treated (dropping items vs storing them in “bones”, basically death chests), etc.
You can also set a delay on how long it takes for the “bones” to be lootable by other players, or disable that completely so only the owner of those items can take them
I have added a comment with screenshots of the UI and HUD
p.s. I love that the inventory UI has a proper dark mode. Minecraft requires a resource pack for something similar! I do wish some of the text had icons / were replaced with icons, but it looks fine as it is.
Screenshots of the UI and in-game HUD:

One problem I found during initial install was that the scaling was not automatic, making the icons very small, so it could be an accessibility issue for those with higher res screens. I had to manually adjust HUD scaling to 2.0 to properly see the icons.
Woah, that does look cool! And damn, it’s been there for a decade, surprised I’ve never heard of it. From what I can tell online it’s very well developed with lots of interesting mechanics
it’s very helpful to just be able to search up the Minecraft wiki to see how things work for Mineclonia.
Oh, I didn’t think about that, that is pretty neat! I imagine there are a couple differences to things like mob behaviour and the little things though, but for general information that seems super useful!
I think the UI is fine, the in-game HUD is excellent (and better than Minecraft’s in my opinion with informative tooltips and the improved recipe book, plus 3x3 crafting grid w/o crafting table!)
Yeah, I imagine that was because they started to grow an ecosystem of games that aren’t clones of Minecraft. It’s super fun!
I don’t think you can make double chests in Asuna, hence four single chests rather than two doubles.
I will still play Minecraft, as it runs natively on Linux (using Prism Launcher, which is awesome for managing instances, mods, and shaders!), but I will occasionally play some Luanti if I want to try something different.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•What DE (Desktop Environments) or graphical interfaces can be controlled with a gamepad?English

Haha that’s fun
