In what way does the suspension require regular servicing or an online connection to a server to function? That would be the only reason to offer it as an ongoing service cost.
Otherwise, you’re just paying extra for something already in your car, not for an actual service, which would make no sense?
What next, paint ongoing service fees for having wheels? Not even for ensuring they’re regularly replaced, serviced, or repaired, just for the ability to use them at all…

Hyundai and Kia upgraded their cars’ anti-theft tech in early 2023. Vehicles equipped with the enhanced software will only start if the owner’s key, or an identical duplicate, is in the ignition.
Fucking… What? A 2023 anti theft technology upgrade added the space age cutting edge concept of starting the car with… the key?
If my car could start without the key in the bloody ignition I’d be furious, that’s what the key is for, haha. You can add extra doohickeys to enhance security, but the first line of defence is the key that starts the car.

Damn, I knew the original term was offensive now and had wondered what they replaced it with, intellectually disabled sounds kinda offensive too xD
Like, it’s not just saying this person has a cognitive disability, but that they’re lower on a class level as well.
I know that’s not the intent and it’s miles better than the old offensive term, but something like “cognitively disabled” sounds much less offensive than “intellectually disabled”. Wish they went with something like that.
I think it’s probably because the term intellectual is used in society to describe a class of people (e.g. “Why yes, I’m an intellectual, I read Yeats while you people read the daily rag”) who tend to think of themselves as better or smarter than others…
So, calling someone “intellectually disabled” sounds like it’s an insult someone from that class would use on someone they wanted to look down on, you know?
I’m glad they moved away from other misused medical terms, but yeah, pity they settled on a term that sounds like it’s throwing shade ><
Even beyond renting, installing a wifi camera is SO much cheaper than running Ethernet all over your house. And if you need it run through an external wall? Even more money.
A bit of plastic trunking, an ethernet cable, and a long masonry bit for your hammer drill to get through the brick wall, oh and a little sealant, not that expensive, I believe in you!

Just going from the headline, I assumed the “Heritage Foundation” was a non profit that worked to preserve our civilisation’s historic buildings, locations, works of art and culture.
Turns out they’re just bigoted fascists, I guess? Huh.
A lot of those over in the USA at the moment. I mean, we have our fair share in Europe too, but ya know, it feels like it’s reaching a tipping point in the USA where fascists have by now infiltrated everything at all levels… :-/
Assuming the drive spins back up after being left in a cupboard for 15 years, if you’re still even able to find a computer compatible with whatever cables it used back then. But yeah.
I use archival blurays for cheap, deep storage for decade plus usage, not something I’d trust to flash memory or even a hard drive. Tape is an option of course but that’s pricey.
Why not just open the door with the key like every car ever
That’s just one country of many, I don’t think that guy winning leadership of that country would affect how Google manages my information.
Nothing about how viable it will be to bring to market, if ever, just discussing R&D without much content.
Potentially always good to see these sorts of improvements :-) Is just not that impactful until they can make it useful. If it’s 50 years away from being producible at scale? Eh. If it’s only 6 months away and can drop in to existing pipelines? Hell yeah!
How does this answer the question?
I’m a little tired of this platform constantly shouting 24/7 about how we should all use Linux all the time, everything else is terrible, etc. Yes Linux is great, I use it a lot, I love it.
I don’t need it constantly shoved down my throat this way though. I especially don’t need it’s users to act all high and mighty and shame me for daring to still use Windows.
I know the pros and cons of using both and I use both for various different tasks. When somebody asks a question about Windows, just telling them to switch their entire operating system to Linux without knowing anything about their situation or why they use the OS they use isn’t answering the question, it’s not even trying to answer the question.
It’s just saying “you’re stupid for using Windows at all for any reason, and I refuse to engage with your actual question or try to help you at all, I’m just here to tell you you’re wrong, your personal life choices are bad and you should do what I do instead”.
I appreciate how great Linux is, but let’s not try to convert everybody to your way of life at every opportunity. Let people live their own lives and make their own choices, whether you agree with them or not, and if they ask a question, seek to answer it without shoehorning your own agenda in. That’s all I ask <3

Huh? What if you’re installing windows on a machine with no internet connection? Which is an entirely normal legitimate thing to do. It’s not a requirement after all.
I have a number of machines that use a local account, they don’t need a Microsoft account and will never be linked to one, it’s unnecessary.

Why? Just because you’re using a forum for a piece of software, presumably because you want to receive or offer help on using the software for the most part, doesn’t mean you’re obsessed with it and hate all other alternatives that exist.
It’s software, not a religion. These people need some perspective.
Imagine being in a community where being asked about alternatives is considered extremely rude. What a weird group of cult-like obsessives that would be. Creepy o.O
Also regarding why one would ask GIMP users about alternatives, theoretically these would be the best people to ask for GIMP alternatives. They presumably know the software well, and have probably tried alternatives (because they’re not obsessive weirdos that worship a single brand image their whole lives), and can give good answers on what alternatives exist and how they compare to GIMP in its current feature set.
They may even actively use multiple softwares on a regular basis. There’s no law against using GIMP and one or two similar pieces of software that perhaps have slightly different features or are better at one thing vs another.
It’s not rude to put a reasonable question about a piece of software and how it exists in the ecosystem to a group that knows a lot about that software. It isn’t a sacred holy cult object of worship. It’s just a program.
Not enough of the mundane has been preserved throughout human history, it continues to be a big problem for historians. Especially when they only have major - likely very coloured or outright lies - official records of events and cultural touchstones to go on.
Why do you think we get so incredibly excited when we uncover something as mundane as the pricing artwork on an ancient Roman food stall? Because that stuff wasn’t preserved, nobody bothered to record such details, so much is lost because nobody thinks their place in history matters enough to bother saving it.
We’ve reached a point in our development where we now have the ability to preserve snapshots of our civilisation in great detail, with extreme ease. We owe it to ourselves and especially to future generations to do so.
