Fuck you. You don’t know what I’m into!

Dude, Microsoft has gotten really bad lately. I upgrades the SSD in a surface pro X I’m giving to a friend. I went to use Microsoft own recovery image for this device and it doesn’t fucking work. It literally kept erasing the flash drive when you tried to boot off it. You can’t use the generic win11 ARM image either because it’s a surface product and they can’t complete the install that way.
I ended up having to clone the old SSD with DD into the new one, move the recovery partition to the end with gparted, then use windows reset my pc thing.
The ability to upgrade the SSD was an advertised feature of the surface pro X. You literally cannot use the product they way they sell it to you.
I use Mac with no problems. I use Linux with the occasional fixable hiccup. I want to punch the pope in the fucking throat when I use windows.
Alpine has a simple diskless install process. Nobody else does. Alpine wins.
Mandrake
There’s some people who have managed to get it working under podman
I do and I never get emails from my ISP.
Well, this should make for some fun, new script-kiddie malware.
Does anyone know how we ended up with penguins as the logo? I kinda get the BSD demon “beastie.” Microsoft chose the windows flag/window pane. Mac has an Apple/the finder face. Android is a cute green robot. iOS pretends to be too sophisticated for a mascot so we’ll just say it’s the Apple again.
And yet we somehow got penguins.
woot! let me know what you come up with.
there is no setup and the instructions for a manual install keep getting me weird complaints from systemd about dependancies. It occurs to me that tackling this is error doesn’t make sense because it requires systemd to work and ultimately I want to run this on a diskless alpine linux install which doesnt use systemd.
It’s not that we can’t do this that has kept it from happening yet. It’s that it’s never been practical.
Hasn’t Kohl’s done this for years?
Honestly it’s just an idea to suck up time at this point. I do NOT have the skills for this shit, as we can see here. I can correct what ChatGPT gets wrong though and just run with that.
Once I crack this, I think it could be fun to create a script that could spoof devices plugged into it with the gadget framework. Could save me a lot of trouble creating known-working usb configs down the road. Instead of starting from scratch each time, I would just have to tweak an existing profile.
Looking at those units I noticed something… ExecStart=/usr/bin/ln -s ${GADGET}/functions/uvc.0 ${GADGET}/configs/a.1/
It’s an a.1 instead of a c.1. Surely it couldn’t be as simple as just using a different letter, could it?
no change
ln: failed to create symbolic link 'configs/c.1/uvc.usb0': No such file or directory
./fauxcam-gadget.sh: line 19: echo: write error: Device or resource busy
And here I just migrated to a lattepanda mu. Fuck.
Dude I remember when live booting knoppix was impressive. Hell my intro to Linux was mandrake. We have so many great distros and documentation available now it’s crazy.
This has been tested and proved time and time again. Google and Apple give apps a method to access the mic that the OS can allow or deny. This is what the apps are supposed to use.
Facebook doesn’t use that method for passive monitoring, only for active engagement. Don’t looks like it’s working when you go the use the thing and it’s disabled but it’s still listening to you.
If you must use such a social network, never ever ever use the mobile app. Use the website or don’t use the service at all.
