I work on Linux and use Linux at home. I’ll try to go through the problems you mentioned:

1. Just run the update command again in the GUI or terminal. If it doesn’t work, we’ll have to dig into apt with verbose logs but I haven’t had apt break on me for over a decade unless I deleted something I shouldn’t have.
2. Is Firefox installed as a snap/flatpak? That only happens with me occasionally when I installed flatpaks, they’re just slower. Canonical can be a real arse about this stuff, they might switch packages to snaps without telling you and you might only come to know about it once you dig deeper.
3. All of these issues seem to related to your storage medium. Is the SSD OK? Open up the process monitor, sort by ascending order of disk writes/reads and open your applications one by one to see which one of them is the culprit.
4. Rebooting suddenly is not normal. Unfortunately, you’ll have to go through logs for this one. Simple ones are dmesg and journalctl, we can dig deeper into them if you want to.

If I had my hands on your laptop I’d be running a vulnerability scan by now but I don’t think the problem is serious enough to warrant it.

Personally, Framework has become a bit too expensive for me. If you’re in the US I’d look at the older Dell precision and HP ZBook workstations from 2020 or earlier, they have amazing specs and go for $400 or so. Fairly repairable because enterprises demanded that they be and gobs of power for anything you want.

Older MacBooks still have that darned WiFi card which you need special proprietary drivers for. And basically nothing in that chassis is standard; everything is Apple-specific if you want to repair it. I don’t recommend MacBooks

True. I use a cheap computer monitor for myself, and since I live like a hermit it isn’t really a problem for me. Aren’t projectors more expensive than cheap 1080p TVs?

Honestly I have no idea how PoW works at all. I’m just happy to see the innovation in this space. With that said, people have raised the idea of using TOR’s PoW mechanism, or in my case, Dread’s PoW. I believe both of them work without JavaScript

Anubis without JavaScript is what I’m waiting for. I know that the Darknet forum Dread has a PoW system that doesn’t use JS (or maybe it does something else entirely and I completely missed it)

The last 3 generations of OnePlus phones do not have custom ROM support AFAIK. They either refuse to unlock the bootloader or do not provide the tool to unbrick the phone anymore, making testing custom ROMs impossible

I stopped using the LX suite when they stopped working on LXDE and switched to LXQT. I think I need to look towards openbox for a minimal DE experience

I think in going to switch from XFCE to KDE just because the XFCE merit of using the least amount of the resources is no longer a reality. I miss LXDE

When I mentioned Mistral, I meant their attention to open source. Their new model (Mistral small) can be run on consumer hardware with similar results to ChatGPT if trained on good data. AI isn’t that useful outside of me asking it to write one-liners but I haven’t had the experience you have.

How much VC/Microsoft funding does OpenAI have? Surely they can’t afford to keep burning cash like they are now? When will they make AI so expensive to use that it will become useless?

The only AI startup I care about is Mistral. Amazing models, altruistic attitude towards AI and software. In my opinion, one of the few great companies out there. Give them a few more years and I’ll consider them in the same league as Mullvad.
