I set up Bunsenlabs on both of my elderly parents computers and then basically automated login stuff to the sites they use, pinned those tabs. Blocked all ads and trackers. Set Firefox to auto open on boot. Basically made them a Linux version of a chrome book where everything they need is in the browser and already active, no mudding around.

8 months later zero complaints from either of them.

I read somewhere awhile back their platinum donors gave a certain tier (10k or 100k or whatever it was). To be clear I’m more than open to being surprised here, I want Ladybird to succeed. I just resent Shopify being involved in any way, I’m a little bit petty after slogging it out at that company awhile because I know what they’re all about.

You may have misunderstood. It was Shopify who did the big NFT play on their platform. I don’t know much about the Ladybird team, I’m not trying to throw shade on them.

I mean I hope Ladybird devs do a great build and go their own way without being corrupted by their donors and all that, don’t get me wrong. But whenever I see that dumb shopping bag logo I get the no feelings.

You can also read up on how the vast majority of Mozilla’s funding has been coming from Google for a very long time, and draw your own conclusions from that fact.

Shopify (i.e. Shittify) being their top donor already has me looking sideways at this project. They’ll invest in anything they think they can get an edge with and if something starts to happen they’ll fuck it up and wallstreet-ify it as fast as possible if they can.

Their (Shopify’s) guru founder Tobi made a huge NFT play that went absolutely nowhere while I still worked there. They spent a lot of time and money on it, right before they laid several thousand people off.

If you use a DNS solutions you can block all the telemetry shit. Frankly FF has been phoning home in a lot of undesirable ways for many years even before this, like most browsers.

Shopify laid off a couple thousand people, then “chaos monkey’d” the entire company just over a year ago, and forced everyone to open an FB Workplace acct as though it was going to boost productivity somehow having us split our comms between slack (which already sucks) that we’ve been using for years and some half assed afterthought Zuck’s team came up with (at least the public facing piece) leading into their own layoff waves.

I left Shopify happily and voluntarily and I’m not gonna pour one out for FB Workplace, at all. Good riddance to bad garbage.

Obligatory Bunsenlabs plug. Nice light Debian based distro with no DE. It cleverly uses openbox wm and tint2 and some other tricks to make it feel like you have one though.

It’s kinda janky but I’ve been running HoloISO on my gaming rig for over a year and it was mostly pain free. To be clear I don’t use that system for much more than gaming but recreational browsing and music/movies etc as well. It’s fine.

Recent decisions by the maintainer to make that distro immutable have confused me and I’m thinking about switching to Endeavor. I was historically a Debian user. This was my first experience with Arch (btw) so I’d kinda like to get to know it a bit before we introduce thicker weeds and deeper rabbit holes thanks very much bye.

OP is it the 7700 non-x 65w tdp version? Asking because I’m thinking about upgrading my CPU from 5600x to the 7700non-x and have the same gpu. I was actually wondering how throwing that integrated graphics into the mix would work so thanks for asking this and looking forward to your findings if you don’t mind posting however you end up solving this.

Dope, thank you for posting. Been using ‘Core CTRL’ for quite awhile but Imma give this a rip. For some reason the former tool never could control the fan curve for my GPU (all the other fans in the box worked fine with it) so this might be profit.

fml I’ve got a debian build on what used to be my daily driver until I somehow managed to completely eff the kernel and headers. This was my first time using LVM and I still don’t know how, but the last time I updated the kernel and headers they installed to not my user-space of choice but to the parent encrypted volume. Not realizing what I had done wrong I then proceeded to autoremove and next reboot… bricked.

Have tried multiple ways to get it back, nothing profitable yet. At least I can still access the file system and have taken everything off that I wanted. Haven’t gotten around to format/reinstall. Won’t be carelessly working with kernels again that’s for sure.
