Technology@lemmy.world•AI data centers face increasing complaints about inaudible but 'felt' infrasound — citizens complain high- and low-frequency sounds do not register on decibel meters but cause adverse health effectsEnglish
492·4 days agoThere’s a local council in my community that is gunning for an AI data center in my county. People are livid, but I don’t think it’s going to be enough to stop the construction. It’s shady as fuck with hidden shareholders that nobody will reveal.
I’m open to any and all suggestions on how to prevent this data center from being built. Peaceful ideas or otherwise.

3·5 days agoThe HBO series Silicon Valley was right. We need a new Internet.
Either that or keep meddling politicians from further fucking up the one we already have.

232·5 days agoI left Facebook after 18 years. It’s nothing like what I originally signed up for.
Facebook is nothing but boomers, bots and AI generated click bait. A cesspool of our own creation.
Burn. It. All.

Technology@lemmy.world•Verified by Spotify: New No AI badge— it appears for creators with steady listener activity, clean platform records, and real-world proof like live shows or merch dropsEnglish
4·13 days agoI’ll never understand Spotify. If it’s such a pain in the ass why do people use it? Napster was big when I was in high school so if I find a song I like, I go download it. Sometimes it’s piracy. Sometimes it’s a legitimate purchase. Whichever is easiest.
Done. The end. It’s mine forever.
As far as discoverability goes it helps that there have been no new music releases in the past couple of decades that I care about.

Believe it or not there was a time when all games on all consoles shipped 100% complete. No patches necessary.
Now it’s about maximizing quarterly earnings and seeing how far you can screw the customer before they leave your product and ecosystem altogether.
Greed-fueled enshitification.
I’m sick of it.

Technology@lemmy.world•Federal Surveillance Tech Becomes Mandatory in New Cars by 2027English
23·17 days agoI’m no economist but the academic model of capitalism works just fine. The problem is when you have moral and ethical failings while legislating off the guardrails that keep things fair and people honest.
There’s nothing wrong with capitalism. It’s us.
We’re the problem.

Nobody cares because we’re all fat, happy and comfortable.
Once rights are taken, violence is the only way to get them back. History is a wonderful teacher.

Same. This 7a might be my last stock Pixel OS.
I miss when Google was small, fun and gave us what we wanted. I still have my Nexus One somewhere.
