Perhaps we will be to our descendents as the first tetrapods are to us.
Not the worst thing to happen to a species, seems to happen to all of them.
I got a great new story once these clicks dry up: “Expensive disposable fork thrown out a little earlier than forecasted”
I’m not a fan of Elon but low Earth orbit satellites by nature are meant to de-orbit. Yes they cause astronomy light pollution but cannot cause Kessler syndrome since their orbit is temporary from the start. Being so low there is atmospheric drag, which sometimes slows objects more than predicted.
Making news of this is like being shocked that infrastructure undersea cables and communication lines are falling apart and being replaced. It’s a fact of life.
Why should these things be free? The other things we get for free on the web are either supported by donations or they harvest something from you that’s valuable and sell it, that’s not free either.
I’m into the idea of paying for higher quality services and have enjoyed my kagi trial. Might see if I can find someone to split an account with.
The same behavior happened when sync came out. Endless complaints about an app being from on app store with the option to pay the hard working developer for their work.
Do they go on public transit complaining that see ads there too? At least when you pay for the app the ads go away forever.
You get a good feel as to what the developer is like on his discord.
I’ve been loving my kagi trial. I used my 100 searches. I’ll wait to see how long I can suffer before I buy it.
Well said!
For dimmers, you either need smart bulbs that do it themselves or a dimmer switch that you know is guaranteed to work with that bulb, it’s tricky. Also, LED lights that get warmer (change colour tone to a more orange colour) as they dim are far more pleasing than just dimming since they emulate what incandescent bulbs do. Sometimes if the power supply to your unit or building is choppy leds are the first to show it, so hope it’s not that.
Good luck with your landlord, let’s hope they’re a good one.
It’s sync for Reddit, something we’ve used for almost a decade. But it’s for Lemmy.
For us, that means a developer we can talk to, who talks to us and listens, who is talented, performant and responsive, and an app that embodies all of the above while configurable and fast.
Imagine your most used app and social media that you have used for so long is taken away overnight. And the developer left his job to work on sync. He lost his job again because of Reddit.
We all got sync and Reddit taken away; now we have it back, and we are pleased about it, and it feels good to toss a token to someone to literally give them their dream job back again.
Also, your comments of ad-supported apps as misleading sponsors is a mischaracterization, even though ads and all associated parts are utterly disabled if you pay 20 bucks to remove them for life. You don’t get to have a fast, cheap, and good app; you can only pick 2. For me, good and fast is just fine. For you, stick with connect.
Most people came to Lemmy because of third-party Reddit apps getting destroyed, don’t be surprised about the hype.
Exactly 😆
I can’t think of another term for them.
Getting rid of them made our place look a lot less like 1997
I’m curious about what fixtures your led light bulbs were in.
Old incandescent lights worked great at high heat levels, so a typical boob light fixture that kept the heat in would be fine for an incandescent. Put an LED light in there, and it can still heat up beyond design capacity and might not get enough ventilation and age prematurely.
The only leds that failed for me were inside a fixture meant for incandescent lights. All our open bulbs or specially designed for led fixtures have been going strong for half a decade or more.
I had no idea there was such a thing as FOSS justice warrior extremists. This belligerent and disruptive behavior on lemmy makes me feel less bad about renewing my Adobe creative Cloud subscription and a lot less interested in FOSS as a concept if this is the community I have to be a part of. I used to be into it, but this mentality is toxic.
It’s directly linked on the official Lemmy webpage:
Lemmy itself is on GITHUB. The corporates have had you in their clutches all along, oh nooooooo!!!11!1!!11oneoneoneone1
So then donate to your server. But denigrating other people on Lemmy for offering highly anticipated services is appalling. Ask for donations in a more appropriate place. My server was swimming in donations and told us to stop donating. Devs adding to the tapestry of options on Lemmy, whether foss or not, don’t deserve to be harassed because you think people’s money should go elsewhere.
Server owners aren’t the only people who are working for free.
There are people that have made skins for Lemmy, do they get paid? Mods as well, not to mention the Lemmy devs and admins. And all of this is nothing without people posting content, are you going to pay them too?
If all one has to do to try and diminish someone asking for a price for their services here is to point out someone else on Lemmy that wants the money too, then everyone looks like a jerk.
Don’t forget, the whole reason Lemmy is so successful these past few months is because the work these devs do wasn’t appreciated on Reddit, and we all came here instead. Are you saying all these redfugees should leave and take their money to X instead?
I’m saddened at the amount of uncivilized discourse going on in this thread.
You can actually talk about these bugs and development with the developer on discord, and also submit reports and suggestions on GitHub.
Saying things like “fuck this” and “uninstalling” about a beta that has had at least 2 versions updated today is the same kind of useless discourse I’d expect with failed protests on Reddit.
Here is a more civilized critique of one of the gdpr functions on GitHub. https://github.com/laurencedawson/sync-for-lemmy/issues/200
Perhaps you can make a new issue about a reject all button as well.
Edit- this response is to the commenters here, not op. OP made a well formatted and polite issue on GitHub.
I paid on my phone and it also gave me ultra on my tablet. It’s not per device. I don’t think google play even has that functionality.
This is like someone standing in Times Square saying, “I don’t go to New York or tourist destinations!”
Why are you here? How did you manage to get here?
