  • Just to be clear, because I had to look into it a bit, California’s law won’t require photos/IDs.

“Operating system providers need not collect additional information like photos of government IDs to verify the user’s age. Based on this age information, operating system providers must send digital signals via real-time API (age signals) to developers upon request, transmitting the user’s age range bracket – under 13, at least 13 and under 16, at least 16 and under 18, or at least 18. When a user downloads and launches a developer’s application, the developer must request an age signal from the relevant operating system provider or the application store from which the user downloaded the application.”

So I’m assuming those companies backed it because they want more analytics about the age ranges of the people who use their products.

  • When I had an iPhone 3GS I got in a hot tub with it in my pocket and it died. I let it dry out. Then I very carefully took it apart and found all the little white stickers inside that turn from white to pink when in contact with water. I used a razor blade to remove those stickers without damaging them. I then placed a drop of bleach on each which turned them back to white and let them dry out. I used very tiny amounts of super glue to re-apply them to the exact same positions within the phone and then very carefully reassembled the phone.

Took the phone into an Apple store. Guy disappeared into the back for about 10 minutes with it. Came back out and said it must have just up and died but he doesn’t know how and gave me a new iPhone.

Only Apple product I’ve ever owned.

    Fuck you Apple.

  • Yeah. When my 12 year old account got banned I stopped caring about that site and started creating new accounts every week and just posting whatever the hell I wanted without feeling like I needed to censor myself anymore. So their ban happy culture tends to have the opposite effect of what they want.

There’s a browser script out there that auto-adds all your subs back from your old account, so it really wasn’t even inconvenient for me other than the 2 minutes it takes to create a throwaway email account and create a new throwaway Reddit account.

And yeah, their methods for preventing you from coming back end up preventing others using the same computer or in the same household from coming back, so they just lose users. Their methods aren’t very sophisticated though, so it’s pretty easy to avoid them.

    Shit site.

  • At the speed at which this is happening, there won’t be, and I’m not joking.

No one is coming to save us.

Arm up. Train. Help everyone you can arm up and train. Form networks and use encrypted messaging apps to communicate.

I’m not going to pretend like I know how this will play out, but the one thing I know is that our federal government has been captured by literal fascists and they’re going to dial this up to 11 and see what happens. Maybe they simply don’t have enough national support to really pull it off. Maybe they do. I do know that you don’t want to be unprepared if they do.

It can happen here. We never thought we’d be where are are right now. But we are.

  • There’s nothing cool about Apple and never was. They’re just really good at advertising to people who don’t understand technology. You have always been able to get the same grade of technology for way cheaper by purchasing from elsewhere.

I’ve been an IT professional (as a job) for over 2 decades. I have had numerous jobs and worked with a lot of tech people. I have had exactly one fellow employee that liked Apple and that dude was straight out of high school and we hired him on as an intern at first and he knew basically nothing.

Apple is good at advertising and robbing people blind. That’s it.
