Does test mode unlock without the key?!? So it’s just “encrypted” with a generic key, and the unlock key is for authentication? That sounds insane, even for microsoft.

*pleasantly surprised.
Ask Jeeves was a remnant from a bygone time of static html 4.0 pages, <blink> tags, and view counters. It was a simpler time, perhaps even a better time. But I’m glad this memory didn’t have to get tarnished, with the mid 2020s tech du jour.

their own department of war
New York has a departement of war?

It’s the EU trying to read everyone’s chat messages because .001% of the population might use the technology for sending CSAM.
That’s only the excuse the politicians are using. In reality there’s a combination of intelligence services and datamining operations pushing for scanning ordinary law-abiding citizens communications.

Someone who don’t want to lose their emails… In https://lemmy.cafe/comment/15974964 it was mentioned that their entire google account got banned for 10 years over adblocking youtube. I stopped watching youtube immediately… I’m not about to watch ads, but I don’t want to lose access to my 22 year old personal account… So many accounts are tied to that address, that I can’t manage to move to a different service.
FML what happened to “do no evil”? Now it’s “make money with the baby grinding machine for all costs”

But it also breaks/weakens the android security model, where apps can do, store or transmit stuff protected from the eyes of the user of the phone.
Which just sounds insane to me. It’s security through obscurity, which is in and of itself a bad plan, to protect 3rd parties against you … on your own frigging device.

Remember when you used to host your own citrix? Pepperidge Farm remembers

I looked it up at a local refurbished phone dealer. A pixel 9a with 256GB storage in “excellent” condition (the second best condition) is 500€.
Who in their right mind pays that for a phone? New or not, that’s just insane. My current android has twice the storage, 50% more memory, waaay better display, and a larger battery that can charge faster, and it was just 200€ with no contract. only downside is that I can’t get a different ROM for it.

It’s a racket, plain and simple. There used to be laws against this sort if thing.
Keyword: used to
I hope that it was worth it, and that America is great again. Let me just check some news articles… Oh my

IDK at the current price trend, maybe we’re approaching a point where having sweatshops make ferromagnetic memory modules in GB sizes is feasible. I’d better start building a couple of hangars for my GPU memory.

You do realize why we’re scrambling to get a European credit card, right? I mean what’s going to stop us from cutting Americans off when Trump decides to invade San Marino?

I don’t disagree, but have you seen what a bulldozer goes for? Guns are expensive, but a dirt cheap cobot arm with a 9mm and extended mag, will be a tenth or less.

Oh please, all the robots need is a light intensity sensor, some simple targeting, and a gun actuator, and they can do “policing” even more effectively than ICE. Maybe a speaker to play a token warning message before firing. You know something like “HALT! Show your identity papers, you have 10 seconds to comply, 9, 8, 7”
Movement comes later, once all the immigrants have figured out where the robots are planted.

When was that? Based on life events I’ve reconstructed this timeline of my hangout sites
Maybe I was just trailing behind you others. Was I the one to ruin your experience? Why would you accuse me of that you insensitive clod? Anyway, in that case I’ll go eat crayons in the corner and shitpost on .ml

And even if you sampled at 10 sps, and did 50 sensors at 10b, you would still only be looking 5000bps or 5.8x10-7 GBps, meaning that it would take roughly 26 years to fill up a 512GB SD card.
While I don’t know for how long the sub had been submerged, I doubt it was close to a quarter of a century. If that was the case, I believe that we would have been talking about that as well. Even if it was 500 sensors, at 100sps at 12b we’d be looking at 79days.
IMHO there’s only a few things a 512GB SD card would be used for. And I hope it was music, because I don’t think we should watch the final moments of these people’s lives.

I want to believe, I really do. But I fear that the crypto apps people have grown dependent on will make it harder than the desktop battle. And IDK but I seem to recall every year since at least 2001 being proclaimed to be the year of the Linux desktop.
I rely on my banking apps (plural), governmental email app, government authentificator app and the governmental LMS app for public schools to make my everyday function. And the last time I tried just a custom ROM, those apps refused to run.
More like ⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️ mother fucker ⬇️

Indeed, feeling the need to check, I can tell you that we’re not in the onion anymore…
Gee Mr Gates, that’s a nice monopoly you’ve got there. It sure would be a shame, if that anti-trust lawsuit the AG is researching were to happen to it…
