  • Not a veteran, but… During the 90s, while still in primary school, a friend of mine bought a Chip magazine with a CD attached and instructions inside the magazine how to install a mysterious thing called “Linux” from said CD. It was supposed to be something like Windows 95, but new, better and it had a Penguin on it, so we decided to try it.

We followed magazine’s installation guide to the letter (or at least we thought so) until the installation stuck at error saying KERNEL PANIC!!! and wouldn’t let us finish. We didn’t understand English much back then, but we found the panicking kernel hilarious. Anyway, we figured it’s been enough h4Ck!nG for that day and got back to playing Diablo 1.

    • Ability to copy community’s link in Lemmy format

    • Ability to link/reference communities in a comment using @ symbol (you press @ and start typing community’s name and it drops down a list to select one). Not sure how viable to implement this would be, sounds hard… 🥹

    • Similar as above - ability to call a Lemmy user via @ symbol and get a drop down of usernames, starting with the ones commenting on the same link? (Lower priority than linking communities)

Lemmy syntax to do these things is super weird and would be really helpful if Sync helped automating it.

Other than that - props and thanks to the devs for making this awesome app. Wish other apps had so many customization options and put user comfort first. Those “little” things like, for example, ability to search through options or even directly link to specific options are super cool! And the fact that you ask users what they’d like to see next is just an icing on the cake 😊

  • We are introducing a new Game Pass recommendation card on the Settings homepage.

They are saying like they just invented something amazing, yet they are just pushing a fucking ad.

The Game Pass recommendation card on Settings Homepage will be shown to you if you actively play games on your PC.

How would you know what we actively do on our PCs, huh? Huh???

Good news is that you can turn off most ads, including app promotions in Windows 11’s start menu.

For now, but you have to be extremely naive to believe they don’t plan to change this as soons as they reach a certain number of users. They already did things like that in the past.
